allow me to introduce myself....
My Name is Jeremy Ratchford and I'm an artist, designer and illustrator based in Manchester, UK. Becoming fascinated by both cars and art from an early age, I made the decision to combine the two professionally In year 2000. The major part of my work specializes in hot rods, custom cars, classics and retro vehicles, though my tastes range through many styles of art and subject matter- not just cars!
So now you know what I do you may like to know what inspired me to start with. I first discovered hot rods as a child, reading magazines, visiting shows, and of course drawing my favourite cars. As I got more involved with the scene I learned more about the famous automotive artists such as Ed Roth, Dave Bell, Steve Stanford, Steve Kirk, along with refining my own artistic style. I also take inspiration from lots of non-automotive sources like Edward hopper, Gerald Scarfe, old b&w photographs, mid-century modernist design and more. I suppose the biggest Inspiration though is the real hot rods, customs, classics etc without which my life may well have gone down a totally different path.
The large portion of the artwork you'll see here is produced in acrylic, watercolour and pastel on heavy duty art paper, but I also like to mix things up a bit and use other media from time to time. In addition to these I also produce graphic design/ digital imagery for logos, t-shirts or any other project you may have. Feel free to browse around my website and see what I do. The Commissions page shows some of the personalized paintings and graphic work I've made to order for customers, while the Gallery pages containn a portfolio of original artwork which is all available to purchase. For those on a smaller budget I also have prints of some of my work to buy. Don't forget to look at the new Other Art page to see my non-car-based artwork, graphics and cartoons.
